What’s next for Floyd Mayweather?

There is only one Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Floyd Mayweather is one of the most polarizing athletes in sports today. There seem to be two sides to Mayweather. We all see the flashy side where he has stacks of money laying around and several luxury cars that would put some car collectors to shame. There is also the side of Mayweather that gives back which was documented in the 24/7 series on HBO when Mayweather donated $100,000 to Habitat for Humanity. The one thing with Mayweather that everyone can agree on is that he is one of the greatest boxers of all time. So what’s next for Floyd Mayweather? Hopefully it’s a fight that will solidify his place in history versus Manny Pacquiao.

Mayweather got through his most challenging test this past Saturday versus Miguel Cotto when he won by unanimous decision. Even though the judges had the fight for Mayweather 118-110 and 117-111 (two judges), the fight was much closer. Mayweather showed true grit and showed the heart of a champion but they’re still that one opponent that he needs to fight to be looked as an iconic figure in boxing.

Floyd Mayweather has said on several occasions that he is the greatest boxer of all-time. Even with a record of now 43-0, the general consensus is that Muhammad Ali is still the greatest. The reality is that he has fought everyone that he can fight except for Pacquiao. If this fight isn’t made this fall, it probably will never happen. If the fight doesn’t happen, neither Mayweather nor Pacquiao can say that they are the greatest because they couldn’t even fight the best fighter in their generation in each other.

Floyd’s personality and his greatness is what make the potential fight versus Pacman so intriguing. The main reason people want to see Mayweather vs. Pacquiao is because some feel he’s the guy that will shut Mayweather up for good. I personally would like to see this fight because they are the two best fighters in their generation.

We all know about the problems of making this fight happen. Whether it’s Manny’s camp not excepting less than 50% of the cut or not taking the blood test, no one will care about these issues 10 years from now. Everyone will remember that these two never fought and set back boxing for years. With over $125 million at stake for this fight, it would be crazy for this not to happen. Boxing is in a state right now that they need this fight more than ever. With these two boxers being the head figures for their sport, the fight could propel the sport for the next generation due to the excitement factor. Even though Mayweather has stated that he doesn’t need the Pacquiao fight for his legacy, there will always be questions of him being scared of Manny if the fight never happens. The fact is that both men will regret not fighting each other once they retire. The time is now to get it done before it’s too late.

Exactly. They would be asked about the fight for the rest of their lives if they don’t fight.

But the only reason why they really want them to scrap is because they want to see him get hurt or K.O.’d, marciano, dempsey, even sugar ray ducked a fight or 2. But i agree 100% it would be good for the sport but it should’nt just be for these guy’s. I think that 1 ranked fighter’s should fight 2 ranked and it should be mandatory tyson was brash, boastful, even little bit of a jerk at time’s but he let them put him in the ring with holyfield to get destroyed!! When he cleaned out the heavyweight division how many times did they want him and the “real deal” in the ring?
