Busy Weekend for L.A. Sports

Busy Weekend for L.A. Sports

Six events in four days.

This weekend in Los Angeles is like no other weekend that we have seen in sports. The Los Angeles area is fortunate to have three professional sports teams in the playoffs in the same year, same time, and deep into the playoffs. The conflict is that the Los Angeles Lakers, Clippers, and Kings all play their games at the Staples Center. It is easy to schedule around each other during the regular season, but with the playoffs there are different seeding and schedules that are involved that make a weekend like this one difficult for the workers at the Staples Center.

The Lakers are playing Friday night and then a doubleheader with the Lakers and Clippers on Saturday, it creates long hours for staff to prepare for the court changes. The huge issue will be Sunday when the Clippers and Kings will play at the Staples Center. The problem is that the Kings will start around noon and the Clippers game starts at 7:30 p.m. It takes about 2 ½ hours to change the ice rink to a basketball court. If the game goes into overtime, they may have to push back the Clippers game which will cost big conflict with TV and Radio stations. The issue with the fans will be the very heavy traffic that will arise because of all of the games. The best case for the management team of Staples Center is to hope and pray for the Kings game to end in regulation.
