Dream Team 1992 vs. Team USA 2012: Who Wins?

Dream Team 1992 vs. Team USA 2012: Who Wins?

Before we get started, I would like to preference this article by stating that we will never know who would really win between these two teams but let’s have fun with it. First it was Kobe Bryant that said the current Olympic Team could beat the 92 Dream Team then it was LeBron James that made the similar comments. Let’s examine what would happen if these two teams met. Let’s make a case for both teams and then I will give you my opinion on would win.

Dream Team 92: The case that the Dream Team would win is simple; they were the greatest team ever assembled. With Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Charles Barkley, and Patrick Ewing starting, who could even match up with that? The current Olympic Team would have problems with the Dream Team’s size. As great as a defender that Tyson Chandler is, he would not be able to contend with Patrick Ewing, David Robinson, and Karl Malone. What would help the defense of the Dream Team is that they would be allowed to play some zone to slow down the athletic abilities of the current Olympic Team. Who’s stopping Barkley down low? Who’s going to slow down Magic Johnson from running and gunning throughout the game? Finally, who’s going to stop a guy named Michael Jordan. Let’s remember, Jordan in 1992 was 29 years old and coming off his second NBA Championship. He was in his prime. Also, the Dream Team could put Scottie Pippen on whoever had the hot hand for the current team and that’s including LeBron, Melo, or Durant. The Dream Team had Hall of Fame players like Clyde Drexler and Chris Mullen coming off the bench. How could they lose?

2012 Olympic Team: Players today are stronger, quicker, and faster. The current team is more athletic and would feel that they have something to prove to the 1992 bunch. One major thing to mention here is that the Dream Team had a Magic Johnson that was out of his prime and Larry Bird that was suffering a horrible back injury that ended his NBA career. They would be going up against LeBron, Kobe, CP3, Melo, KD, Deron Williams, and the rest of the team. Also the Dream Team didn’t have the best players in that era on that team. They left off Isaiah Thomas because some players didn’t want to play with him and Shaquille O’Neal. Remember, Christian Laettner was the college player selected over O’Neal. Another factor is that many of the players on this team were on the 2008 Olympic Team which means they are more familiar playing with each other than the Dream Team.

Bottom Line, the Dream Team would beat the current team because the players on that team are more superior to this current team. Even with Magic and Bird being out of their prime, the Dream Team still had Stockton and Pippen to lead the Dream Team to a victory. I am convinced that a lineup of Stockton, Jordan, Pippen, Barkley, and Ewing with the reserves they had could beat whoever lined up against the Team USA. Guess we’ll never know.

Who do you think would win, Dream Team or Team USA?

the original’s no question, first off i just want to say that however the game goes for these guy’s to say that only means they don’t respect the players before them, who not only set a standard but raised the bar and seperate us from any other team in the games! Now for kobie to say that well he’s feeling himself but he alway’s have but he paid his dues in L.A. and still there but his game is jordan’s everybody know he’s jordan’s son (skill wise)just not enough rings and he came outta h.s. lebron on the other hand well jordan told him and i quote “you need to go out and buy yourself a jumpshot” need i say more nobody else on the team matters cause just like their too small who else is a legit defensive player that can stop those guy’s who played the game like it was suppose to be played but most important played their position!
