NFL Opening Game Preview: Cowboys vs. Giants

NFL Opening Game Preview: Cowboys vs. Giants

Each week we will break down the game of the week in the NFL. It is your chance to express your opinion on the biggest games of the week. With this week being the first week of the season, we will showcase two previews. For now let’s focus on the kickoff game which is the Dallas Cowboys versus the New York Giants.

This is the rematch from New Year’s Day which was for the NFC East title. This game exposed the Dallas Cowboys secondary on all levels. From poor tackling, Fullbacks leaping over Cornerbacks, to Victor Cruz breakaway touchdown, it showed that the Dallas Cowboys had to do something with their Defense. This game also was the true start of a Super Bowl run that the Giants went on. The Giants was the hottest team in the league at that point and it was on full display on New Year’s Day.

Dallas Cowboys: It seems that the focus all offseason for the Cowboys has been how to be better than the Giants. It even prompted Jerry Jones to say “watch us kick the Giants _____”. Since the last game of the season, the focus has been on the window closing on the veterans on the Cowboys team. Now it show and prove time. With 14 players on the injury list, it will be interesting to see if the Cowboys are sharp Wednesday night. Also the Cowboys offensive line in a question as well. Has Phil Costa improved from a year ago? Will Tyron Smith be ready for JPP, Tuck, and company? With the revamped secondary of the Cowboys looking improved from last year, will it be enough to beat the Giants on opening night?

New York Giants: Going into this game, the focus has been on the injuries on the Cowboys players. Much talk has been made of Jason Witten spline injury. The Giants are banged up as well. The Giants will start Michael Coe at CB because of the injuries to Terrell Thomas (out for the season) and Prince Amukamura (high ankle sprain). Do you really want your fourth CB going up against Dez Bryant or Miles Austin? The Giants offensive line is a question mark as well. Let’s see how new LT Sean Locklear does against DeMarcus Ware. What the Giants can depend on is Eli Manning and Victor Cruz. Hakeem Nicks is coming off of a foot injury and seems he won’t be at 100%. To the Giants advantage, their front four on defense will pressure Tony Romo for four quarters.

It’s finally time for football. Welcome back. Can’t wait to see what happens this year. Who do you think will win this game?
